James Gillespie

Coach Gillespie comes to Christian Brothers College from Hazelwood Central H.S., where as an assistant he spent the past three years coaching girl’s sprints. In 2013, Gillespie brought home hardware as the Lady Hawks claimed the class 4 State Team Title. In all, 9 champions were made, and 2 school records were set in the 4x1 and 4x4 relays.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management at Central Missouri State University (’99), where he was a nationally ranked long jumper. Years later, Gillespie completed his master’s degree in sports management at Lindenwood University.

Prior to C.M.S.U., the St. Louis native competed in track at Hazelwood East H.S.

Gillespie has 13 years of collegiate coaching experience, with coaching stops at Lindenwood and mostly notably St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley. While head coach at Flo Valley, his athlete’s produced 5 national sprint titles, 1 Olympian, over 40 All-American’s, 3 USA national meet, 3 Canadian national meet, 2 Jamaican national meet, and 3 USA junior qualifiers. Prior to being the head, he was the assistant under the legendary Norris Stevenson. During that time the team produced 2 triple jump titles, and 20 plus All-Americans.

Since 2008, Gillespie has served as a school director/instructor for the USA Track & Field level 1 coaches education courses, in the St. Louis area.

Coach Gillespie and his wife Shay, are the proud parents of two sons, Grant and Dylan.
